The Wood Wharf development on the eastern edge of Canary Wharf, which recently won approval from Tower Hamlets Borough Council, has been shortlisted for a £1bn government program to help with infrastructure improvements to the surrounding area.
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said the funding will come in the form of a loan, repayable with interest. Thirty buildings, comprising 2.6m sq ft of residential space with 3,100 homes that are a mix of private, intermediate and social housing make up the development, the first phase of which should be complete by 2018; Canary Wharf Group must now wait to see if the project is one of the five picked to benefit.
