London house prices rise in May

Land Registry data has revealed that house prices in London rose 18.5% year-on-year in May, triple the 6.7% increase seen across the rest of the country.

The average price in London is now £439,719, compared with £172,035 for England and Wales excluding the capital. Despite this, the figures indicate a cooling in the market, as month-on-month prices in May only rose 0.4%.
