Up-and-coming Canada Water to hit new heights

Canada Water, so long stuck in the vast shadow cast by Canary Wharf, is finally set to stand in its own light with the news this week of a deal that should unlock a vast swathe of residential development.

Sellar Design and Notting Hill Housing have formed a £500m partnership to build 1,000 apartments in the area. The for-sale scheme consists of a 20-storey tower designed by David Chipperfield, to be followed by a 40-storey, 150m-high tower. Completion is scheduled for 2018. Notting Hill CEO Kate Davies commented “This is an up-and-coming area and that is why we were interested in it — to be very close to Canary Wharf in an area that has a great deal of potential and enables us to provide a range of housing options and commercial space”.
