Ryan Corporation’s proposed Hertsmere Tower on West India Dock Quay may be the tallest residential building planned for the area, but it is by no means the only one.
Developer Canary Wharf has already lodged plans to build the Diamond Tower, a 218m luxury apartment block, and Chalegrove Properties has consent for a 239m tower, with 864 flats and 84 serviced apartments on Westferry Road. Berkeley Homes has sent a scoping report to planners at Tower Hamlets council for developments at South Quay Plaza: a main, 80-storey tower, with accompanying 35-floor and six-floor buildings nearby. It is anticipated that these developments, combined with Canary Wharf’s status as one of the world’s leading financial centres, will see areas such as Bow undergo a gentrification process, as income-rich, asset poor young professionals move into the area.
