World-renowned “starchitect” Richard Rogers has designed a range of pod-style homes for low-cost private renting – and Stratford is set to be one of the first beneficiaries of the scheme.
The homes will be built off-site and transported to Newham, where 36 two-bedroom flats will be slotted together “Lego-style” on land owned by Newham Council. Sir Robin Wales, the Mayor of Newham, said “Once the scheme is established, I want to be more ambitious and ensure the council subsidises at least half of the homes at affordable rent or below, so they are within the means of residents on low incomes”.
