Mortgage lending hits five year high

Mortgage lending in the UK increased sharply in October to the highest level in five years, according to figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

The gross value of mortgages disbursed in October was £17.6bn, higher by 9% than in September. Compared to October 2012, mortgage lending advanced 37%. The latest figure was the highest since October 2008.
