London rents double the cost of the rest of the UK

The average asking price for rental properties in London is now £1,516, according to a new report from Gumtree, over double the cost of the rest of the UK.

The figures were based on half a million property listings on Gumtree.com between October 2012 and December 2013. The best value properties, the report found, are in County Antrim and North Lanarkshire where the average rent was £549 per month. Aberdeen was the most popular place to rent notching up an average of 17 replies for every property listed.
