Oliver Shah reports on the growing trend of developers launching their properties in Asia.
He notes that Bellway chose Hong Kong's Mandarin Oriental hotel for the launch of its Platinum Riverside development in North Greenwich last weekend, with Jones Lang LaSalle presenting the properties to a packed audience. Mr Shah comments that similar scenes take place in luxury hotels across Asia every weekend and that up to 30 London developments are being prepared for launch in Asia early next year. The companies say these “exhibitions” are essential because they bring in the funds needed to start work on developments and build affordable housing. Critics say Londoners are being shut out of their own city. Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the Home Builders Federation, said: “The industry understands this is an issue and is looking to develop a code of practice to address it.”
