Isle of Dogs’ New Union Wharf gets £64m facelift

25th October 2013

East Thames Group’s New Union Wharf development, by the Thames waterfront on the Isle of Dogs, is set for a £64m regeneration after the go-ahead was given for 400 new energy-efficient riverside apartments.

It will include social rent, shared-ownership and outright sale properties, ranging from one to four bedrooms, with spacious outdoor areas such as balconies and winter gardens. The revamp began last week with the demolition of Heron Court on the old estate, and the first residents will start to move into their new homes in two years’ time, although the project won’t be finished in entirety until 2021. It was recently named “Best Scheme in Planning” at the National Housing Awards, for the level of involvement residents on the former council estate had in its planning and design.
