Isle of Dogs: from wasteland to Wood Wharf

24th January 2014

Cradled inside the Thames’ deepest bend, the Isle of Dogs, once one of the least accessible areas of East London, has become the capital’s second financial centre and the newest dazzling go-to district.

The dockside developments at Canary Wharf – now numbering over 35 steel and glass buildings – have the feel of a miniature Manhattan; and within the next five years, it will be possible to live as well as work there, as new schemes such as Wood Wharf are completed, delivering over 3,000 homes to the area. Other new developments include Ballymore’s Providence Tower, the last apartments from which are to be released shortly, priced from £450,000. Galliard has launched the second phase of apartments at the twisty 45-storey Baltimore Tower, starting at £440,000. Prices near the new Crossrail station, opening in 2018, are expected to rise almost 20%.
