The Council of Mortgage Lenders said the number of homes sold this year is set to top 1m for the first time since 2007.
First time buyers contributed some 270,000 house sales to the figures, a 40% increase on 2009. The first phase of the Government's Help to Buy scheme saw 5,375 new homes bought at an average price of £194,167 using an average equity loan of £38,703.
