More than 17,000 homes have been bought under the Government's Help to Buy scheme, according to the latest official figures.
The vast majority (80%) have been bought by first-time buyers, while 77% have been purchased outside of London and the South East. Separately, Lloyds Banking Group said it had continued to see "strong" interest in Help to Buy mortgages and had received more than 5,000 applications from across its businesses to use the scheme. The bank said that 85% of those seeking to use the scheme were first–time buyers and that 1,435 home purchases backed by Help to Buy mortgages had been completed as of the end of January.
