Chinese state-owned property developer Greenland Group has made a £1.2bn swoop on two major London developments: one at the Ram Brewery in Wandsworth and the other on a 98,000 sq m site at Canary Wharf.
On his monthly LBC Ask Boris radio phone-in, Mayor Boris Johnson told listeners Greenland plans to build a skyscraper taller than One Canada Square; although a statement from the Mayor’s Office later clarified that the tower is an “ambition” rather than a concrete proposal. It has been reported since that the firm has agreed terms on the Hertsmere House site at West India Quay, after a proposed sale to Irish businessman Thomas Ryan fell through. Ryan last year announced plans to build a 75-storey residential block there.
