Draft guidance for letting agents published

The Times reports on the Office of Fair Trading's new guidance for letting agents.

The draft guidance, which is open for consultation until December 10, is based on trade description laws. Cavendish Elithorn, senior director for goods and consumers at the OFT, said that the guidance would help prospective tenants to make decisions based on full information about the property and the agreement they are entering into. The private rented sector is "vitally important to millions of people", he said, because rent can be the biggest drain on their finances.
