Boris Johnson's pledge to build 100,000 new affordable homes in London by the spring of 2015 has been cast into doubt by The London Assembly's own figures.
The GLA's housing committee warned Mr Johnson that he was likely to fall short of his targets. The GLA's statistics show 3,018 new affordable homes were started between April and September this year. A further 9,500 would be needed for the Mayor to get all the pledged homes completed by March 2015. Deputy mayor for housing Richard Blakeway admitted 100,000 was a "stretching and challenging" target, adding that about 5,000 new homes had to be started to meet it. However, he insisted it was still deliverable.
