Rightmove has revealed that the average asking price of houses has increased to £251,964 across England and Wales, a rise of 6.9% on the same time last year, the biggest rise for seven years.
While each region of the country saw year-on-year growth, prices in London rose by 11.2% in the 12 months, taking the average to £541,313, while in contrast the uplift in the North-east was just 0.1% - taking typical levels to £142,372. In Wales, asking prices are up by 2.3% year-on-year to reach £165,055 on average. Rightmove also said there had been a "welcome jump" in the number of properties coming to market this month. Over the past four weeks, the number of new homes listed on the website has averaged 27,768 - an 18% increase on the same period last year.
