Canning Town festival offers behind-the-scenes look at area’s transformation

Back to news

Canning Town will host a month-long program of walks, workshops, exhibitions, and tours as part of the London Festival of Architecture, showcasing the area's ongoing regeneration and future development plans. Running through June 27th, the festival will feature events organised by Newham Council and partners including Ballymore, Transport for London, and Cody Dock. Activities include behind-the-scenes tours of Canning Town station, artist-led workshops, guided walks, and the launch of a public exhibition on plans for the Limmo Peninsula. The festival will highlight the transformation of Canning Town through the delivery of more than 10,000 new homes, new community facilities, and public spaces under Newham Council’s Growth Plan. Future projects under discussion include the redevelopment of the Limmo Peninsula, a masterplan for 1,300 to 1,600 new homes on local estates, a new riverside walkway along the River Lea, and the proposed Mayer Parry Bridge. Organisers say the events will give residents opportunities to learn about regeneration proposals, provide feedback on future developments, and explore themes of identity, community, and belonging, which form the focus of this year’s festival.
